Volleyball looks to rally against Oregon schools

From staff reports

Cougar Volleyball travels to Eugene and Corvallis, Oregon this weekend to compete against No. 11 Oregon today and Oregon State tomorrow

“Overall we played really well as a unit,” Washington State (9-7, 0-4) senior middle blocker Chelsey Bettinson said after last week’s loss to No. 20 Southern California. “There’s just a couple of things we need to clean up. We’re on the right track.”

The Cougars are looking to bounce back after a weekend that saw them lose close matches to USC (8-6, 1-3) and No. 17 UCLA (11-4, 2-2).

“Even when we have a quick turnaround, we still need to come back fighting with all of our energy and just give it all that we have,” sophomore outside hitter Kyra Holt said after the UCLA match. Holt is coming of a big weekend against the southern California schools, totaling 34 kills, followed by senior outside hitter Jaicee Harris with 24.

Senior middle blocker Ver’Leea Hardaway said part of the reason why the offense did so well in last weekend’s match is because they were aggressive and hit up front rather than tipping.

“I thought we definitely did some great things offensively,” Head Coach Jen Greeny said. “We spread the ball around quite a bit when our passing was on.”

The Cougs’ match against the Ducks (13-1, 3-1) today at 7 p.m., will be available on live stream and live audio at wsucougars.com. The match tomorrow against Oregon State (12-3, 2-2), also at 7 p.m., will be available on the Pac-12 Networks as well as live audio and stats on wsucougars.com.
