ASWSU begins first steps toward renovation approval

From Staff Reports

ASWSU is moving forward after President Elson S. Floyd gave the organization approval to begin making plans regarding the future of the old Bookie.

Plans need to be approved by the Board of Regents before any renovations can be made on the building itself. Any plan made is estimated to be presented to the board for approval next semester, said ASWSU President Jared Powell. This is subject to change.

Currently, the idea is that the building will be turned into a Student Resource Center and Area, Powell said.

First, ASWSU needs to begin putting together a plan, he said. This would include forming a committee of sorts that would include student support and faculty members from student affairs.

Once this is done, a strategy must be determined for moving forward. A plan will be presented, a motion will be made to gain support, and the Board of Regents will begin their review.

“These are just ideas,” Powell said. “No conversations have been had.”

Powell and Farmer will meet with John Fraire, vice president of Student Affairs and Enrollment, to discuss these ideas.
