Fatal car accident north of Pullman; one dead

Emergency personnel talk at the scene of a fatal accident outside of Albion Wash., Friday, Sept. 12.

FROM STAFF REPORTS

A Colfax resident was killed Friday morning in a semi-truck and car collision. A white Toyota Camry traveling northbound on 195 outside Albion was struck head on by a semi-truck the morning of Sept. 12.

The driver of the Camry, Sammuel Thompson, 20, of Colfax, was pronounced dead on the scene.

The accident was reported at 10:24 a.m. Friday.

The Camry crossed into the southbound lane, where the semi-truck was traveling, said State Trooper Rob Aucutt.

At the time, it is unknown why Thompson crossed lanes, Aucutt said. Authorities do not suspect he was asleep. There was no indication that alcohol was involved in the collision, said State Trooper Karey Reisdorph.

Thompson, who was wearing his seat belt at the time of the collision, was enrolled at Lewis-Clark State College, though he was not attending classes this semester.

Authorities have confirmed Thompson was the only person in the Camry, and there was one person in the semi-truck, Aucutt said. The driver of the semi-truck sustained minor injuries, Aucutt said.

The accident completely blocked the road for about four hours on Friday.

This accident occurred on the same stretch of road as three other deadly or near-deadly crashes over the last year. In November, a woman was killed; in February, two Eastern Washington University students were killed; and in May, a man was left in serious condition in the hospital.
