Three WSU football players arrested early Sunday

From staff reports

PULLMAN – Three WSU football players were arrested early Sunday morning in two separate incidents.

Tanielu Ekuale, a 20-year-old redshirt freshmen defensive lineman, and a 17-year-old player not named because of his age, were arrested around 1 a.m. for frequenting a tavern as minors.

Management at Stubblefields bar on Colorado Street contacted the Pullman Police Department after noticing the two minors had snuck in from the back and were on the dance floor, Cmdr. Chris Tennant said.

Ekuale and the 17-year-old were released at the scene. Tennant said their cases will be forwarded to Whitman County Courts. The Whitman County Prosecutor’s Office will determine whether the 17-year-old’s case will go through a juvenile or district court.

In a separate incident, Theron West, a 23-year-old redshirt senior running back, was arrested around 4 a.m. on charges of reckless driving, driving without a license and driving without car insurance.

Officers initially responded to the 300 block of Northeast Terre View Drive for a possible domestic dispute between two women. Tennant said the officers then saw West speeding out of the parking lot and stopped him because they thought he was involved in the dispute.

West and the two women were acquaintances, but he was not involved in the dispute, Tennant said.

Bill Stevens, the associate director of WSU’s athletic communications department, declined to comment on the players’ arrests, which he said are a team matter.
