Halloween here early; FreakNight Traveling Circus finds campus

From staff reports

Halloween comes early as the FreakNight Traveling Circus storms Beasley Coliseum.

The traveling circus is a pre-party to Northwest Halloween ritual known as FreakNight. Its roots come from the circus’s previous tour, “The Paradiso Journey.” Having enjoyed the show tour, it was decided to do something similar to set people up for the FreakNight Festival in Seattle, tour manager Max Goessing said.

“This is the first time any of our tours has been in a venue as large as Beasley, and we can’t wait to share that special experience with all of the fans,” Goessing said.

FreakNight Festival is a two-day event in October that attracts 20,000-30,000 people and is known as the Northwest’s leading Halloween festival. In the last two years it has been known as the biggest Halloween party in the world, said tour support Darrius Washington.

“We are pretty much the best in the Northwest,” he said. “We keep setting the bar every year and getting better and better.”

Pullman is the first and biggest of the seven stops the circus will make throughout its tour. The show will include international and national headliners such as Bot Nek, Borgore and Caked Up, Washington. Hand-picked local talent from each stop will also perform.

The FreakNight Traveling Circus is described as an electronic dance music scene, with a lot of industry standards in terms of LED panels and special effects to keep the audience entertained. Goessing said the festival gives fans a taste of every genre such a scene would offer. Various attractions, rides, and performances will be offered throughout the night, Goessing said.

“I would describe the circus as just going to be a spectacle,” Washington said.

Audiences are also encouraged to wear costumes, treating the event like a true Halloween party. Past participants have gone all out, and there’s a costume contest at the event. Washington said one of his favorites was an 8-foot tall teddy bear made of other teddy bears.

Goessing said he enjoys the atmosphere of the crowd at FreakNight. It is clear to see that everyone is there to have a good time just by watching the fans come through the door, he said.

“Expect us going all-out for this one,” Goessing said.
