Revenue Dept. to collect first retail sales taxes on recreational pot

From staff reports

OLYMPIA – After one month of legal recreational marijuana sales, producers, processors and retailers must submit their July tax return to the Washington Department of Revenue by Aug. 25.

The Department of Revenue collects retail sales tax from the sales of marijuana, marijuana concentrates, useable marijuana, marijuana-infused products and related paraphernalia. Taxes generated in one month are due to the department by the 25th of the following month.

The department is one of two state agencies collecting taxes on recreational marijuana. Washington’s Liquor Control Board is separately collecting other taxes authorized by Initiative 502, which are due by the 20th of each month.

Additional information about applicable taxes and payment methods can be found on the department’s website, dor.wa.gov.
