Cougar alum Lagat wins 7th US crown

From staff reports

Distance-running legend Bernard Lagat, who graduated from WSU in 2000, defended his title at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the final of the men’s 5,000 meters to take his seventh U.S. crown in 13:31.

Lagat competed at WSU in the late 1990s and earned All-America status 11 times. The three-time World Champion and two-time Olympic medalist was honored by the university in 2007 when Pullman Mayor Glenn Johnson declared Dec. 9, 2007 as Bernard Lagat day.

Former Coug Jeshua Anderson also competed at the USATF Championships and was in second place with 60 meters to go but ultimately finished in 5th place, short of a medal.
