‘Plein air’ painting competition returns to Moscow

From Staff reports

Painters will once again bring their easels outdoors for the city of Moscow’s fifth annual Plein Air competition.

“Plein air” is French for “in open air” and is used to describe the act of painting outdoors. The competition, which allows painters 18 and older to paint in any medium, will take place from Sept. 10 to Sept. 19.

After that allotted painting period, artists will frame three of their paintings to hang from 8 a.m. to noon Sept. 19 at the Third Street Gallery in Moscow. Dana Aldis, the 2011 first-place winner, will judge the competition on that day from noon to 4:30 p.m.

An artist reception and awards ceremony will take place at the gallery from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

The $20 competition entrance fee includes registration and an invitation to the artist reception and awards ceremony. More information can be found on the City of Moscow website.
