Local DUI number down from last year
July 28, 2014
Local law enforcement stopped eight people suspected of driving under the influence during heightened patrols earlier this month – notably fewer than the 19 who were stopped last year during the same period.
The annual Summertime DUI Emphasis campaign took place this year from July 1 to July 13. The patrols were funded by a grant from the Washington Traffic Safety Commission and supported by the Spokane County Target Zero Task Force, which aims to reduce the number of traffic-related deaths to zero by 2030.
Agencies that participated in the campaign include the Whitman County Sheriff’s Office, the Washington State Patrol and the WSU, Pullman and Colfax police departments.
