Pirates sign former WSU shortstop Tam Sing

From staff reports

The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed former WSU shortstop Trace Tam Sing to a free agent contract and assigned him to the Jamestown Jammers of the New York-Penn League. Tam Sing made his professional debut on July 27 hitting 1-for-3 with a double while starting for the Pirates’ short-season Single-A affiliate.

Tam Sing wasn’t drafted after his senior year, despite being drafted twice earlier in his career. The Boston Red Sox drafted him out of high school in 2010, but he instead decided to play for WSU. He was drafted again by the Kansas City Royals in 2013, but he opted to return to Pullman for his fourth season with the Cougars.

Tam Sing started 24 games as a freshman in 2011 before an injury limited him to six games in 2012. He rebounded to have his best season as a Cougar in 2013 when he started 52 of 53 games and batted .280 with 11 doubles and 17 RBIs. In 2014, his production dropped off when he batted .238 with 9 doubles and 10 RBIs.

Tam Sing finished his WSU career with two home runs against Stanford on May 16.
