Man pleads guilty to child rape in Pullman

From staff reports

A former Pullman man accused of child rape has pleaded guilty in Whitman County Superior Court.

Richard Devaney, 41, was deemed fit for trial in May after undergoing a mental evaluation at Eastern State Hospital in Medical Lake.

Devaney was charged with first- and second-degree child rape for alleged sexual assaults that occurred in Pullman. A nationwide warrant for his arrest was issued in December 2013 after he failed to appear at an arraignment hearing.

A local resident recognized Devaney in Texas last fall before reporting him to the Pullman Police Department. Devaney was arrested later that year in Arizona.

His sentencing is scheduled to take place on Aug. 29.
