Summer Session office to host pre-Hoopfest tournament

Spokane Hoopfest, the largest 3-on-3 street basketball tournament in the world, is just a few weeks away. The WSU Summer Session office is looking to get future participants warmed up with a tournament of their own in Pullman.

The tournament might not draw in the couple hundred thousand players that Spokane’s annual street ball competition attracts, but it will be an opportunity for anyone staying in Pullman this summer to get some time on the courts before Hoopfest weekend arrives.

The tournament starts up at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 14 and runs until 4 p.m. Players interested in attending can register for the tournament by sending an email to [email protected].

Teams can be up to four players in size (three players and one sub). Emails should contain first and last names of all teammates, as well as a phone number, an email address and the desired team name. A maximum of 16 teams will be allowed to sign up on a first come, first served basis.

The tournament will be played on the courts behind the Student Recreation Center. Players who come out on top will be awarded gift cards.

“We want people to come and have fun!” said Julie Beck, the marketing and promotions coordinator for the Summer Session office.

For those with a hankering to play but no one to join them, the Summer Session office will be putting together a team of free agents. Individuals should express their interest to be free agents in the email.

Students spending the summer in Pullman will be a chance for them to experience a small slice of the famous 3-on-3 tournament before the Spokane Hoopfest June 28 to 29.
