Trial postponed for Moscow man accused of killing wife

From staff reports

A Moscow man accused of murdering his estranged wife had his trial postponed this morning in Latah County District Court.

Charles A. Capone, 52, faces several charges for his alleged role in the disappearance of Rachael Anderson, 40, of Clarkston. The two were in the process of getting divorced when Anderson went missing on April 16, 2010.

Authorities said Capone lured Anderson to his auto repair shop in Moscow, where he drugged and killed her, according to the Associated Press. Capone has pleaded not guilty to charges of first-degree murder, failure to notify a coroner or law enforcement officer about a death and conspiracy to commit both of those crimes.

Also accused is David C. Stone, 50, of Moscow, who pleaded guilty to failure to notify law enforcement about a death in May 2013. Thompson has said detectives interviewed Stone and believe he is not responsible for Anderson’s death but helped cover it up.

Anderson, a mother of four, was last seen in Moscow. Law enforcement officers have presumed her dead in light of several unsuccessful searches for her body. A search of the Snake River that ended on June 14 involved the U.S. Coast Guard and officials from Washington and Idaho.

Latah County Prosecutor Bill Thompson said 2nd District Judge Michael J. Griffin plans to recuse himself from Capone’s trial. The court had planned to begin selecting a jury today.

Capone and Stone are being held in the Latah County Jail.
