Moscow man sent to prison for fatal shooting

From staff reports

A Moscow man has been sentenced to at least two years in prison for the fatal shooting of 42-year-old Charles McMichael.

Nathaniel Nisbet, 28, was arrested last November after he shot McMichael multiple times in the chest at the home of Nisbet’s estranged girlfriend.

Initially charged with first-degree murder, Nisbet agreed in April to a charge of voluntary manslaughter in a Latah County District Court. His sentence may last up to 15 years.

McMichael had planned to help Nisbet’s girlfriend change the locks on her trailer door. When he, his wife and the girlfriend arrived, they found the door locked and barricaded. McMichael forced open the door and found Nisbet inside. A disturbance ensued, and shots were fired.

McMichael died of his injuries at Gritman Regional Medical Center.
