Keb’ Mo’ brings ‘love and understanding’ to WSU

From staff reports

Originally known as Kevin Moore, Keb’ Mo’ will promote his new album “BLUESAmericana” on campus at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Beasley Coliseum.

The album is a blend of folk, R&B and bluegrass with an overtone of the traditional blues signature that won him three American Grammy Awards. Also an expert in guitar, this new album as well as his concert is heavy on acoustic sets but also includes ensembles with horns and percussion.

“Keb’ Mo’ is a visionary roots-music storyteller, whose message is about love and understanding,” Performing Arts Director Gail Siegel said.

Keb’ Mo’ dedicates that message to the marital strife he and his wife have overcome since his last album release in 2011, according to his website.

“These 10 songs come from a very honest place,” he said.

Keb’ Mo’ will only make an album if he is inspired to do so.

His first album went gold and his second album won him his first Grammy. He repeated this feat in 1999 and 2005 along with four other Grammy nominations, BMI awards, and multiple WC Handy Blues titles.

Siegel said he encourages anyone interested in American roots music to attend the concert.

“This is a great opportunity for students and community members who would like to tip their toe in the vast and uniquely American musical waters born from the Mississippi River Delta over a century ago,” she said.

Tickets range from $19 to $35, and discounts are available to members WSU Alumni Association. Tickets can be purchased online at ticketwest.com, in person at the Beasley Coliseum ticket office, or by phone at 800-325-SEAT. All ages are welcome.
