A SWAT team arrived this morning at Puffin Glass Studios, a smoke shop on South Grand Avenue, after police responded to the report of an active burglary.

The call came in around 4:45 when the owner of the shop saw suspects via live security cameras in the building, according to a press release by Pullman Police Chief Gary Jenkins. An alarm company had notified the owner of the intrusion.

Police surrounded the store and called for anyone inside to exit promptly, but none responded.

When the Whitman County Regional SWAT team entered at about 8 a.m., it discovered the suspects apparently had fled before the first officers arrived on scene.

McKenzie Street near Grand Avenue was closed for about three hours, and a portion of Grand Avenue in front of the business was closed for about thirty minutes during the SWAT operation.

Police are investigating several leads, including a vehicle that was found in front of the business.
