Side-swiping drunk driver held on $100,000 bail

From staff reports

The woman responsible for the rollover accident that occurred Monday on Grand Avenue awaits her prosecution after an arraignment that was held yesterday in Whitman County Superior Court.

Cheryl A. Bynum, 53, of Clarkston, faces counts of felony hit-and-run, DUI, reckless driving and driving with a suspended license. Bail was set at $100,000.

Deputy Prosecutor Merritt Decker said Bynum has prior DUI convictions as well as a warrant history. The Whitman County Sheriff’s Office is investigating to determine whether she has had other run-ins with the law recently.

Bynum was arrested Monday after she lost control of her van near mile marker 5 of Highway 27, just north of Pullman. She had continued on the road after causing an accident that snapped a utility pole.

The driver of the flipped vehicle remained trapped inside for almost 45 minutes while workers removed live power lines.
