Kristoff Williams slows down after completing a catch during practice at Martin Stadium, Tuesday, April 15

From staff reports

A blustery Pullman day had little effect on the Washington State football team Tuesday as it held its ninth spring practice.

Redshirt junior Drew Loftus had a standout day in both the 7-on-7 drill and the full team scrimmage, hauling in two touchdowns from fifth-year senior Connor Halliday and one from redshirt freshman Tyler Bruggman.

Halliday went 13-of-20 in the full-team period with one touchdown and no interceptions. Bruggman completed 12 of his 15 passes in the scrimmage and threw touchdowns to both Loftus and redshirt senior Kristoff Williams. Bruggman also threw the lone interception of the practice in 7-on-7, a tipped ball that ended up in the hands of Darius Lemora, a redshirt freshman safety.

Loftus also jostled with cornerback Kamel Greene to make a catch down the right sideline on a pass thrown by redshirt freshman Luke Falk.

In Falk’s only drive during the scrimmage he led the offense down the field on 3-of-6 passing and with a touchdown to redshirt sophomore Willie Roach. Roach also caught Bruggman’s longest completion of the afternoon on a deep streak route down the left sideline.

One of the defensive highlights of the day happened while Halliday was under center. The quarterback completed a pass to sophomore receiver John Thompson fairly deep down the middle of the field and Lemora, the redshirt freshman safety, lowered his shoulder and delivered the biggest hit of the practice on the receiver. Lemora almost became the defensive standout in 7-on-7 drills when he jumped an out-route and got two hands on an ill-advised Halliday pass. To his dismay, the ball bounced away from him and fell harmlessly to the turf.

The one field goal try of the afternoon was a 49-yard attempt by Powell who had enough distance on the kick but pushed the ball right of the goal post.
