Women’s golf in 15th after day one

From staff reports

The Washington State women’s golf team fell short of a strong performance on the first day of the Silverado Showdown.

The tournament, hosted by Oregon and Colorado and held at the prestigious North Course of the Silverado Resort and Spa, featured some of the best teams in the nation which caused the Cougars to hold in 15th place with a score of 616 (+40) after day one.

No. 79 ranked Washington State faced No. 1 USC, (9) Arizona, (11) Washington, (20) Northwestern, (33) California, (35) Oregon, (43) San Diego State, (44) UNLV, (46) Wisconsin, (52) Colorado, (69) New Mexico, (72) San Jose State, (73) Oregon State, and (106) Fresno State.

Washington State Head Coach Kelli Kamimura said she expected the team to focus on one shot at a time prior to the tournament. However, that was not enough to push the Cougars to a win.
