Women’s golf avoids last place on final day of tournament

From staff reports

The stiff competition at the Silverado Showdown left the Cougar women’s golf team in the back of the pack after three rounds of play.

Washington State was not able to battle adversity in the final round of the Silverado Showdown held in Napa, Calif., Tuesday morning which resulted in a 14th place finish.

After the first two rounds, the Cougars were sitting in 15th place with a score of 616 (+40).

WSU managed to improve in their second round by six strokes with a score of 305, but that was not enough to climb up the leaderboard.

“The team got off to a slow start in the first round and battled back in the second,” Head Coach Kelli Kamimura said in a press release. “We improved by 6 shots in the second round and look to keep the momentum going and make a move up the leaderboard today.”

In their final round of play Tuesday morning, the Cougs were not able to do much better, climbing only one position.
