After No. 22 WSU volleyball captured a pair of big wins against two Pac-12 opponents at home this past weekend, the Cougars head to the desert to take on Arizona State University on Friday.

It was a rocky start to Pac-12 play for the Cougars but now with an even .500 record and the ship heading in the right direction, Head Coach Jen Greeny is pleased with her team heading into Tempe, Arizona.

“This conference is absolutely crazy, we’ve played four matches all against top-25 teams and we’re 2-2,” Greeny said. “The first weekend at [University of] Washington and [University of] Oregon we had chances to win and every single match in this conference is tough. It was great to get two wins this weekend and we will face more really good teams on our trip to Arizona.”

Now midway through the season, Greeny is looking for her team to find more consistency in their play.

“As far as adjustments I still think consistency is the biggest thing for us,” Greeny said. “It seemed like we came out against [University of] Utah and we were up 2-0, of course they made some adjustments and they’re a very good team and came back and tied it up. We were able to win it in the fifth but I think that overall consistency from all our players in every single skill is what we’re working on going in to this road trip.”

In their upcoming road trip the Cougars have two contrasting opponents; first on Friday they will play the defensive-minded Sun Devils who currently lead the Pac-12 in digs, then on Sunday they get the Pac-12 leader in kills in No. 21 University of Arizona.

“Arizona State plays great defense,” Greeny said. “We will have to pass well to be able to be in system and get our [middle blockers] going and be balanced offensively. But we have two very different teams and styles that will be tough to prepare for on the road.”

The Cougars match against the Sun Devils starts 8 p.m. Friday at Wells Fargo Arena. The match will also be televised live on Pac-12 Networks.
