Women’s golf takes 5th place

Led by senior Mallory Kent and junior Kristen Rue, the Washington State women’s golf team finished in the top-five, marking the team’s best finish so far this spring season at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational in Kaneohe, Hawaii.

After shooting scores of 305 in the first round and 299 in the second, the Cougars finished with a score of 302 in the final round to finish with a final score of +42(906).

Rue led the Washington State team finishing in a four-way tie for 11th place and shooting a score of +8 (224). Two strokes behind was Kent, who finished in a two-way tie for 16th place with a final score of +10 (226).

In third place for the Cougars were sophomores Monica Huang and Nani Yanagi, who finished in a six-way tie for 28th place with a final score of  +15 (231).

Sophomore Rachel Lewis finished the competition in a two-way tie for 53rd place with a score of +21 (237).

No. 35 Mississippi State took the victory shooting under 300 in all three rounds and finishing with a final score of +11 (875).

Meanwhile, Kennesaw State’s sophomore Ines Lescudier stole the show finishing in first place with a final score of E (216).

The team led by Head Coach Kelli Kamimura will travel to Tempe, Ariz., to compete at the Ping/ ASU Invitational hosted by Arizona State on April 4.
