A Taste of Pullman

The Pullman Chamber of Commerce and ASWSU have created a weeklong event that gives students and the community an opportunity to enjoy off-menu items at a low price.

The event began yesterday and will continue until Friday with nine local restaurants in Pullman participating, including: Rico’s, The Cougar Cottage, Fireside Grille, the Hilltop Inn, Birch & Barley, Paradise Creek Brewery, The Black Cypress, Banyans on the Ridge and South Fork Public House.

Each restaurant had the option of putting together a $12 or a $20 menu for the week. Three of the restaurants are providing a $12 menu and six chose to provide the $20 option.

The event gives the local restaurants in Pullman more exposure and allows students to discover new foods and good eats.

Rico’s Pub manager Tawny Johnson said the event aims to get students off campus and aware of all the great restaurants available downtown and about the community.

“It promotes us to people who didn’t know us before,” said Johnson.

Included on Rico’s $12 menu is each of the restaurant’s five burgers. They have a buffalo bacon blue burger, Ruben burger and a western bacon burger, among others. The burgers come with a side salad, fries and a drink.

“For people that don’t have a lot of money they can get a full meal for $12,” said Tawny.

Fireside Grille owner Michael Byrne said this is an opportunity to get new customers in the restaurant.

Some of the Grille’s menu items include their Cougar Gold chicken mac and cheese, a Kobe beef burger and their handmade fish and chips. Each dish on their discounted menu comes with an appetizer, side salad and rolls.

“It’s a great week to go out and get a great deal,” said Byrne.

Byrne chose the $12 option because he wanted to make the menu accessible to students. He is hoping to get more people into the restaurant and make them aware of the fresh seafood and prime steak that Fireside has to offer.

The general manager of Paradise Creek Brewery Scott Mackey acknowledged that this week is all about promotion.

Mackey said some people are not aware if Paradise Creek Brewery is a restaurant or a bar and that he hopes to gain more exposure for the restaurant. He said he hopes to have people of all ages come and try their menu.

Some of their promotional menu items include a pesto chicken wrap, a pepper bacon cheese burger and buttermilk battered fish and chips. Customers can choose one appetizer, a main course and choose from two different desserts.

“Pullman needs more people to stay in Pullman, and go out to eat in Pullman,” said Mackey.
