WSU instructor found dead in Sunnyside Park

From staff reports

A WSU history instructor was found dead yesterday morning in Sunnyside Park.

Scott Stratton, 51, was discovered floating in the upper pond of the park, where he went to walk his dog Mojo Tuesday night. Pullman Police Cmdr. Chris Tennant said Stratton’s family reported him missing at about 10:45 p.m. after Mojo returned home without him.

“We scoured the park diligently with family and friends, and we couldn’t find him last night,” Tennant said.

The Whitman County Coroner has tentatively ruled the death as accidental, and Tennant said there was no evidence of foul play.

He said an autopsy in the near future will ascertain the cause of death.

Stratton’s father David said he was unloading groceries when his son strolled by with Mojo.

“He said Jimmy Fallon is going to move The Tonight Show from California to New York,” David said. “It was the last conversation we had.”
