ASWSU Senate welcomes Engineering and Architecture seat

From staff reports

The Associated Students of Washington State University have appointed a new senator from the Engineering and Architecture College, filling an open position in the Senate.

After reviewing three applicants, ASWSU elected Joyce Khoury as the new engineering and architecture senator.

“All three applicants were very well qualified,” said Kevin Massimino, ASWSU vice president. “She seems like she is eager to start, and I’m looking forward to seeing what she does this year.”

Khoury promptly took her seat at the senate and discussed some of her immediate plans to get engineering students involved around WSU.

“I plan on contacting whoever is in charge of construction at the new hotel to see if we can get tours for engineering and architecture majors,” Khoury said.

Khoury, who is from Lebanon, said this could be a good start to get experience so that she can go back home and work in Lebanese government as a transport engineer.

All three applicants had an opportunity to tell the senate about themselves and their goals for the position before the meeting went into an executive session.

Massimino said there are still three all-campus senator positions open.

“All three were great candidates. The other positions, all-campus, I’m going to apply,” said Esteban Mena, one of the applicants for engineering senator. “When I set my sight on something, I go for it.”
