Police responded at about 12:40 a.m. Friday to a report of an assault near the intersection of A Street and California Street.

Alexander A. Birkland, 21, was arrested for second-degree assault, a class B felony, after police determined he had punched another man, causing head injuries.

Paramedics treated the victim but did not transport him to the hospital.
