Valentine’s Day is a perfect reminder that many of us are lonely.

Like the Purge, once a year it becomes legal for couples to show off their relationship in front of us who have no one — the difference is they’re only killing our patience.

But there are boatloads of events going on this week in Pullman that don’t require a date.

“I would probably just hang out with some friends and enjoy my day,” said Sylvie Kunz, WSU freshman.

But where? How?

Just before Valentine’s — for one night only — “Night School” will be showing in the CUB Auditorium tonight at 8 p.m. Using your Cougar Card, you can get in for free. If you plan on seeing the movie with someone outside of the university, they just have to pay $2. So no worries. Make sure to show up early because popcorn is free while supplies last.

SEB also put together a “Valentine’s Arts Hour” tonight from 6 – 8 p.m. in the Chinook Student Center, Room 150. For those who have a sense of creativity, this is a great opportunity to decorate mason jars and water bottles, make pillows and do much more. These could make a perfect gift for friends, family, or your room.

Need a break from all that Valentine’s candy no one gave you? University Recreation is a hosting “One Billion Rising” from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m Thursday. One Billion Rising is a worldwide celebrated movement to end violence against females. While supporting the cause, you are also getting a good workout and staying healthy with an hour of Zumba.

You might be feeling chilly this snowy Valentine’s so check out WSU Planetarium’s display of the solar system in their showing of “Some like it Hot.” Thursday evening, for $5 at the door — cash or check, no credit — you could be warming up to an astronomical adventure at either two showings: 7 p.m. or 8:30 p.m. Make sure to get there at least 30 minutes prior because tickets sell fast.

And you don’t need a date to sing the night away. Mark your calendars for Thursday at Butch’s Den from 7 – 10 p.m. WSU SEB is hosting a Valentine’s Day Karaoke for free. There’s no better way to release your stress than to sing your heart out on Valentine’s day, so bring yourself or friends and enjoy good music, pizza, drinks, and prizes.

Need a good laugh? The STAGE Student Theatre is putting together the “Butthouse Improv Comedy” show from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. Valentine’s night. Their previous shows have been phenomenal so you are bound to have an amazing time. To top it off, it’s free.

The stress of Valentine’s Day will probably still be weighing on you this weekend so make sure to clear your schedules on either Saturday or Sunday, or both. Pups & Cups Cafe will be hosting a “Valentine’s Weekend Wine Tasting” event at 6 p.m. You could go with your Valentine, but you could also take a friend or yourself. Treat yourself — if you are of age. It is a little pricey, but $40 gives you the choice of four different wines and table-side fondue. Remember to make a reservation.
