Hospital cancels gender forum

Pullman Regional Hospital (PRH) announced Tuesday it has cancelled the special June 29 board meeting to discuss performing gender reassignment surgery at the hospital.

Hospital officials stated in a news release that the comments they have received so far will be considered as part of the decision-making process, but that they do not believe a public meeting is necessary based on the number of comments received.

Megan Guido, PRH chief marketing and community relations officer, said the hospital received over 200 comments, but did not have an initial limit on how many comments they would accept.

She said hospital administrators and the president of the Board of Directors, in consultation with other board members, made the decision to cancel the forum.

“We decided it wouldn’t necessarily be a productive forum for communication,” Guido said.

Guido said the comments are very helpful and that the hospital heard from many different voices.

The hospital will continue to accept public comments by mail or email through July 3. Comments can be submitted to [email protected].
