Student political leaders to debate tonight

From staff reports

Presidents of WSU Young Democrats and WSU College Republicans will face off in a debate about the “future of Trump’s America” tonight at 8 p.m in the CUB auditorium.

ASWSU Sen. Kevin Schilling will moderate the debate between College Republicans President James Allsup and Young Democrats President Gavin Pielow. Schilling is also the host of the KZUU radio show “Spice up Your Morning,” where he will host the two debaters this morning as a precursor to the evening’s debate.

Schilling describes his radio segment as a talk show that features millennials who talk about current events, politics and popular culture. Allsup and Pielow have appeared on the show as guests multiple times throughout the year, he said.

Both Allsup and Pielow submitted approximately 10 possible questions to Schilling to be used for the debate. Schilling said he will shape the submitted questions to be more objective.

Schilling has isolated several topics that the debate will focus on, including: Russia’s involvement in President Donald Trump’s administration, Supreme Court confirmations, U.S. foreign policy, the proposed border wall between the U.S. and Mexico, the national budget and health care.

“It will most certainly be a lively, respectful, intellectual and curiosity-stimulating debate,” Schilling said.

The Daily Evergreen will live stream the event on Facebook and live tweet.
