Though students might think Pullman summers are boring, there are lots of opportunities to see live music performances.

“Summertimes in Pullman are awesome,” said Tawney Szumlas, owner of Rico’s.

Rico’s Pub will host Paradox, six-piece, multi-genre, cover band who formed in Moscow, Idaho.

Paradox are no strangers to Pullman. Aside from having band members from the little town, Paradox has played in Pullman’s “Music on Main” performance series. The band’s take on popular music ranging from the 1980s to current hits are lively, Szumlas said.

“[They are] all songs that you know, all songs that you can sing to,” Szumlas said. “I mean, you don’t need to because they do a better job singing it than I could.”

Their covers don’t match the original songs but give a spin with different sounds from their blend of instruments.

Regular guests at Rico’s coming for their live shows have probably noticed the atmosphere of the pub lights up with jazz music.

“Once in a while, we do go out of our comfort zone and bring in a [non-jazz] band,” said Szumlas. “They’re really good and people really love them.”

The live music event will be from 8:30 to 11:30 p.m. on Friday at Rico’s Pub, 200 E Main St. For those 21 and over, Rico’s offers “brew and tunes,” according to the facebook event page.
