“This is a crime of intimidation … this is the crime of scaring people when they’re at their most vulnerable,” said Dan LeBeau, Whitman County chief deputy prosecutor.

A former WSU football player appeared in court Aug. 30 after a warrant for his arrest was issued Aug. 6.

Christian Haangana, 21, was arrested in April and formally charged with malicious mischief in the third degree, which is a gross misdemeanor.

According to an order quashing bench warrant from the Whitman County District Court, Haangana will appear in court for a mandatory pretrial at 9 a.m. on Oct. 3. Sandra Lockett will act as his appointed defense lawyer.

According to the court document, the warrant for Haangana’s arrest was dismissed on Aug. 30 because he has “voluntarily appeared before the court and is likely to appear in the future.”
