WSU (7-1) cruised past UT Arlington(6-3) to victory in the final game of Friday’s double header in Bohler Gym. The final scores were 25-20, 25-13, and 25-14.

Freshman outside hitter Pia Timmer led the Cougars in kills once again with eight in the match, followed by a 53 percent kill percentage. Redshirt sophomore outside hitter Charity Bradley followed close behind with seven total kills against UT Arlington.

The first set had the closest score differential at five points. Though four service errors from UT Arlington gave the Cougars the winning edge late in the set.

WSU put its foot on the gas pedal early in the second set making 11 kills in the first 16 serves. Pia Timmer said the second set is where WSU improved from the previous set.

“Towards the beginning, we were kind of tapped out. But after the first set we cleared things up,” Timmer said.

WSU head coach Jen Greeny gave the team a wake-up call going into the second set.

“Our mindset is that the first set is in the past and the second set is the future so we can focus on what we can do next,” Redshirt sophomore outside hitter Charity Bradley said.

The Cougars easily closed out the third set tonight 25-14, with six straight points coming midway through. After a commanding win tonight, Greeny still wants the squad to keep progressing as a unit on defense.

WSU emptied most of their bench throughout the end of the third set.

“We have a lot of things to work on with such a young team, consistency being the biggest thing [to work on] and getting our block solidified as well,” Greeny said about looking ahead to WSU’s next matchup.
