Public records request asks for data on every state employee

From staff reports

The Washington State Office of Financial Management will release information requested from public records on all state employees, including those at WSU, on Feb. 16. The request includes employees’ full names, job titles and descriptions, and pay information.

The office received the public records request on June 23, 2016, from Robert Hungerschafer. He first requested the data late in 2014 from Pam Davidson, former Office of Financial Management public records officer, according to an email Davidson sent to Nathan Sherrard, the office’s current records officer. She wrote that it took her two months to gather the seven years’ worth of data.

This time the information request is asking for the 2015 data and what the Office of Financial Management has for 2016 so far, Davidson said.

According to the Public Records Act, chapter 42.56 RCW, collective bargaining agreements require notifying employees when their information is requested.

Employees can seek an injunction to prevent their information from being released, according to RCW 42.56.540. The Office of Financial Management needs to be served an injunction by close of business on Feb. 15 for it to be reviewed, according to a WSU news release.

If employees have further questions they are advised to contact their human resources department, not the Office of Financial Management.
