Trash-talk is immature

Editor:

I found Beau Baily’s opinion piece on the Cougar-Husky rivalry childish and unprofessional. While the rivalry can be fun and promotes school spirit on both sides, talking poorly of another university in our school paper is simply immature. Smack-talking the Huskies makes us look like we don’t have anything to brag about without putting someone else down.

I work as a Cougar Connector, and I do my best to let every prospective student know that WSU and UW are both great institutions and college choice is about personal preference. And guess what? They typically choose WSU because of our welcoming, friendly atmosphere, not because we told them Ted Bundy went to UW.

We should also remember that dredging up old information to make someone or something look bad is easy to do. I am sure our university has some cringe-worthy history, which a UW writer could easily use against us.

Just be positive and accepting, Cougs: this attitude is what makes us better than UW.
