Junior midfielder Chelsea Harkins dribbles past an Arizona State defender in a match at Lower Soccer Field on Oct. 9.

The season is coming to an end as well as the collegiate careers of six significant players.

The WSU soccer team will host the Oregon State Beavers today in their return to the Lower Soccer Field after a challenging weekend resulting in dual losses in California.

The Cougars will also use the evening to recognize and celebrate their seniors’ final year on the team with Senior Night, which was originally set to take place in the final game against the University of Washington.

“It seems surreal,” senior forward Kaitlyn Johnson said, “but it’s a good time to celebrate because everyone is going to move on to what they’re going to do in life. We can’t take these three games for granted,”

Johnson is one of eight seniors on the team, including forward Amy Neal, goalkeeper Alexis Thode,  defender Jazmin Jones, midfield Kailiana Johnson, defender Lianna Simms, midfield Nicolle Marlow and defender Susie White.

“I’m excited for it and all of the other seniors are excited for it too,” Johnson said. “We’re also really sad that it’s coming. We’ll be ready for it, but it’s going to be a hard one.”

The Cougars and the Beavers have identical (1-7-0) conference records, with both teams recording their singular wins against Arizona State. WSU took down the Sun Devils 2-1, while OSU shut them out in a 2-0 win.

Though the Beavers have one more goal for the season at 18 to WSU’s 17, the Cougars have outshot OSU 251-188. WSU has remained a leading team in the Pac-12 for overall shots this season.

WSU is coming off a road trip of weekend losses to now No. 6 USC and now No. 8 UCLA. The Cougars fell to USC 0-3 on Thursday and were outshot by the Trojans 15-23.

The Sunday match against UCLA resulted in six yellow cards between the two teams. The Bruins managed to hold the Cougars to one goal, and won 2-1.

OSU fell to Arizona last Sunday 0-3, directly following their victory against ASU on Thursday.

The Cougars have brought home victories from the last two meetings with the Beavers. Goals by now junior midfield Sofia Anker-Kofoed and former redshirt senior forward/midfield Beau Bremer secured the 2-0 win over OSU in Corvallis last year.

Today’s match will kick off at 7 p.m. on the Lower Soccer Field in Pullman.
