The team’s leading scorer, senior Nick Mandell, tied for 23rd place, shooting (+3,219). Mandell birdied 10 holes over the course of the tournament. Not far behind was sophomore AJ Armstrong who finished tied for 25th.

Armstrong had an overall score of (+4, 220) in the tournament and carded himself an impressive eagle on the back nine in the final round.

Junior Zach Anderson finished with a score of (+10, 226) and tied for 44th place. Close behind with a final score of 227(+11), was sophomore Grant Cole in a tie for 51st.

The WSU team was able to make up ground after an uncertain first day. They moved up three spots on the leaderboard in the final round, finishing with an overall score of (+21, 885).

“We still need to do a better job of sticking to our keys and executing during the round,” said WSU men’s golf Head Coach Dustin White via wsucougars.com. “But the fact that we fought until the end shows grit and pride.”

The Cougars had a display of integrity as they persevered for a better position through the end of the tournament. Twenty team birdies and the eagle from Armstrong topped off the team’s final round, their best of the tournament.

WSU now looks ahead to Monterey, California, where they will compete on Oct. 24 at the Saint Mary’s Intercollegiate.
