Springfest
April 22, 2016
From Waka Flocka Flame to DESTRUCTO, Cougs will be having a good time feeling the sunny vibes at Springfest 2016 this Saturday.
This year’s Springfest is a full-day festival featuring six artists: Tay Ali, Grynch, Ryan Caraveo, Marc E. Bassy, DESTRUCTO, and Waka Flocka Flame.
“We’ve just really been targeting the summer vibe, the spring time, really getting people in the mood for going home or going to the water,” Student Entertainment Board social media manager Callie Coleman said.
Springfest 2016 attendees will be given wristbands that permit re-entry, allowing students to plan their day around the acts.
“Saturdays before finals are pretty busy for a lot of students,” Coleman said.
In celebration of the approaching end of the semester and to reflect the underwater theme, SEB chose something different and quirky for the festival’s logo: an octopus.
“’Festivals are weird, let’s go weird’ was the thought behind the logo,” she said.
For the first time this year, Springfest will feature a beer garden, along with food trucks, bounce houses, and photo booths.
“Concerts outside just have a better vibe,” Student Entertainment Board concert programmer Lauren McNeill said.
McNeill said her focus was on finding artists people could recognize, like Marc E. Bassy who just toured with G-Eazy and will be coming to Pullman straight from Coachella.
“I think students have heard of all of the openers. Grynch and Ryan Caraveo are going to bring a certain demographic of people,” she said.
WSU’s own Taylor Taliulu also known as musical artist Tay Ali will also be performing his song “WAZZU” at Springfest 2016.
“We really wanted to incorporate WSU and the football team, and he really encompasses the school,” Coleman said.
The weather forecast predicts rainy skies on Saturday, but that is not dampening Springfest’s vibe.
“Waka is notorious for putting on a crazy show, and if it rains, it will be 10 times crazier,” McNeill said.
Springfest 2016 will take place tomorrow on Wilson Road, behind Lighty Student Services. Doors open at 1:30p.m. and performances begin at 2p.m. Tickets are $20 at the Cougar Card Center or $31 online.
“Having an EDM artist is going to be a big party,” McNeill said, “It will be a good time.”
