IFC President-elect Adam Crouch discusses some goals for his term in the CFSL Office, Tuesday, Nov. 19.

The torch of leadership for the Interfraternity Council (IFC) and Panhellenic Council (PHC) at Washington State University is changing hands.

Adam Crouch and Madi Phillips, leaders of the Greek community at WSU, were elected to the presidential positions of IFC and PHC at WSU, respectively.

Crouch, a member of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity, said he looks forward to the opportunity to lead the Greek community for two of his last semesters at WSU.

“I’m really excited to not only give back to the community that’s given me so much but to also be in a position to ensure everyone’s best interest in every decision made,” Crouch said.

Phillips, a junior at WSU, said being chosen for the PHC presidency was an honor.

“I think there were numerous candidates who would have excelled at this position,” Phillips said. “I’m very grateful and humbled to be chosen by this community.”

Phillips and Crouch will assume their presidencies in January and stay on until the end of the 2014 fall semester. They will oversee their respective councils, acting as liaisons between their councils, university administration, and all fraternities and sororities on Greek Row, including other chapter presidents.

“Working alongside a council with such an apparent dedication to improvement is truly refreshing,” Phillips said. “I trust that they will challenge me to be the best that I can be.”

Both students were recommended by a slating committee through the Interfraternity and Panhellenic councils and elected by the supporting councils individually.

Phillips said she most looks forward to collaborating with her peers on the council and sharing their motivation.

“I think that we have the potential to strengthen the WSU Greek community,” Phillips said.

During the semester, both president-elects attended meetings for the IFC and PHC. The months leading up to their election served as a mandatory training period for the roles.

“It’s been a real gradual change,” Crouch said. “It’s been an elevation through each level of not only chapter leadership but IFC leadership.”

Phillips and Crouch were equally involved in the Greek community at WSU before being elected as presidents.

Phillips served on the executive board of her chapter for two years and was a counselor for the incoming new members of the fall 2013 formal recruitment. Crouch has been elected to several leadership positions in his house, including public relations chair, class president and treasurer.

“If I have learned anything through this experience, it is that there are phenomenal leaders in every single chapter on this campus,” Phillips said. “I could not be more excited to work with these individuals.”

Crouch said he looks forward to working with Phillips and being able to bounce ideas off of a fellow Greek member and interact on a regular basis.

“We’ll be working hand in hand in a lot of things as they pertain to both fraternities and sororities,” Crouch said.

Phillips agreed.

“When dealing with such a prominent Greek community, it is important to foster personal relationships with the executives from each chapter, as well as to have an open line of communication with the Panhellenic and IFC council members who are responsible for each area of success,” Phillips said.
