One WSU student dead, one injured in crash

One WSU student is dead and another is seriously injured after a crash Friday evening on Highway 195 north of Rosalia.

Christine Hunter, 18, died on the scene and her passenger, Sidney Ritter, 18, was transferred to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane for serious injuries, according to a press release from the Washington State Patrol.

Ritter’s condition is satisfactory, said Jennifer Semenza, spokesperson from the marketing and communications department at Sacred Heart Medical Center on Monday.

Early reports of the accident indicate the vehicle crossed the enter line, for  reasons unknown, and hit an oncoming truck carrying three passengers. Alcohol and drugs were not a factor in the accident, according to the press release.

One of the passengers of the truck was transferred to Sacred Heart for a broken leg, according to a report from the Spokesman Review. The other two passengers did not sustain injuries, according to the press release.
