The Washington State women’s golf team has not had any trouble in paradise during the first day of the Pac-12 Preview at the Nanea Golf Club.

The Cougars headed to Kailua Kona, Hawaii on Monday to compete in the tournament. WSU is competing against Pac-12 rivals Arizona, Arizona State, California, Colorado, Oregon, Oregon State, UCLA, Washington, as well as the host school, Hawaii.

The Cougars found themselves struggling to keep up with the rest of the pack on Monday. After two rounds of play, the Cougars are 20-over-par, tied for sixth place with Colorado. They are 11 strokes behind co-leaders Arizona State and UCLA.

Sophomore Alivia Brown was the top-finishing Coug, as she shot even par (146) for the day to end up tied for third place with Wenyung Keh from Washington and Monica Vaughn from Arizona State.

Brown is seven strokes behind the leader Charlotte Thomas from Washington, and one stroke behind Caroline Inglis from Oregon for second place.

Other Cougars struggled to find the same success as Brown. Senior Monica Huang is 5-over (151) and tied for 21st place, junior Cherokee Kim is 7-over (153) and tied for 26th place, sophomore Bree Wanderscheid is 8-over (154) and tied for 31st place, and senior Nani Yanagi is 15-over (161) and in 47th place.

Freshman Madison Odiorne and senior Rachel Lewis are competing as individuals in Hawaii. Lewis is tied for 53rd place at 19-over (165). Odiorne is tied for 56th place at 23-over (169).

The Cougars hope to climb the leaderboards on the second and final day of the tournament today beginning at 9:30 a.m. PST. Golfstat.com will have live results of the tournament.
