Blackboard changes update identification

From staff reports

Washington State University students are now able to list their preferred name on Blackboard. The change went into effect Thursday, Oct. 15

Jenifer Barclay, an assistant professor in the department of critical culture, gender and race studies shared insight into why this decision is important for the WSU community.

“I think for students who are transitioning and students who are transgender, they need to be able to see themselves reflected in this very public space of Blackboard where they will be interacting with other students,” she said.

The decision was sparked by a student’s request to display preferred names for students. Students who choose to display their preferred name, rather than the name that the university has on file, will see the changes on both the roster and grade book.
