Brooke’s Story

EDMUNDO AGUILAR | The Daily Evergreen

Be the Match, a student organization at WSU, is helping a young girl named Brooke Lim and others like her by connecting patients with life saving bone marrow and peripheral stem cell donors.

“For those who don’t know, my 13 year old daughter, Brooke, was diagnosed with aplastic anemia a couple of weeks ago. We received a blow to our spirits as our 2 boys were not a bone marrow match. We now have to go to the worldwide registry to find a bone marrow match for her. If I do nothing, which I absolutely will not, she will die. Her bone marrow is not making any red blood cells, white blood cells, or platelets. Another name for aplastic anemia is bone marrow failure. I really need to do as much as a father can to give her the best chance of survival. Some of you already also know that we also battled terminal cancer for 4 years with our 10 year old daughter Jovee and unfortunately lost another daughter, Shyanne, at 4 months old due to heart failure. Not asking for pity – just pleading for any help to avoid another heartache for myself, wife, and kids.

The best candidates are between the ages of 18-44 years old. if you have time, the best website to read up on being a bone marrow donor is:

Thank you all. Thank you for your support.

Ty Lim”
