Tori Ector found her passion for sports at a young age and began her professional career as an athletic trainer for track, field and baseball at the University of Georgia.
“My earliest moments in sports were surrounded with lifelong friendships and getting outside. I ran track competitively and was a cheerleader,” said Ector, now an associate athletic director for student-athlete, staff and alumni relations at WSU.
At the University of Georgia, Ector had the chance to gain professional experience in the athletic department.
“During my time as a student, I volunteered and helped around the sports department, eventually becoming a graduate assistant,” Ector said.
Ector is a people person at heart. The connections she makes are the highlight of her career in sports.
“I love to connect with others and like to uplift others when possible. I have had the chance to meet so many amazing athletes, alumni and coworkers,” Ector said.
Tammy Crawford, associate professor for sport management at WSU, described Ector as energetic, thoughtful and well-spoken.
“Tori Ector brings energy, enthusiasm and industry experience to the students. She looks to improve the people, places and organizations that surround her,” Crawford said.
Ector said it is important for women to hold powerful positions in sports.
“It is absolutely important for women to be a part of the professional sports industry,” Ector said. “Representation matters on all fronts — you have women that are athletes, coaches and watching sports.”
Ector sees the changing atmosphere for women in sports and believes women bring valuable perspectives to the table.
“Title IX has opened the door for women to be in positions of power and creating positions specifically for women,” Ector said.
Ector’s biggest inspiration is Kelli Kamimura, the senior associate director for WSU Athletics. Kamimura is a leader Ector strives to emulate.
“Tori inspires me just as much, if not more. I am incredibly grateful for her. Her unwavering positivity and boundless energy motivate me every day,” Kamimura said.
Kamimura said Ector’s work ethic is exceptional, and she brings her best to everything that comes her way.
“She is efficient, focused and detail-oriented. She ensures that her work is not only productive, but of the highest quality,” Kamimura said.
Ector said women who are interested in sports should apply for opportunities, even if they don’t meet every qualification.
“Do it. Apply for the job. Reach out. Advocate for yourself. Do not be afraid to say, ‘I am good at my job, and this is why I am the best for the job,’” Ector said.
