A head-on collision between two vehicles occurred on Highway 195 between Colfax and Pullman at roughly 7 p.m. Friday, killing one driver and injuring five people, according to a report from the Washington State Patrol.
According to Washington State Patrol, Makala Wheeler, 20, allegedly made an unsafe pass while driving south and collided with Sandra Hall, 67, who was driving north. Wheeler’s car veered off the road and rolled over, while Hall’s car came to a rest.
Hall was deceased at the scene.
All passengers in Wheeler’s car were transported to different hospitals. Two 18-year-old passengers in Wheeler’s car, Jaina Wheeler and Caleb Tams, were airlifted to Sacred Heart hospital. One 18-year-old passenger, Madelyn Lemmon, was transported to the hospital in Colfax, where she was discharged after receiving medical attention. Wheeler and 18-year-old Trinity Bott were transported to a hospital in Pullman.
Wheeler may be subject to charges, pending an investigation into the fatal crash.
The road was blocked for several hours following the collision. It has been cleared as of Saturday morning.
