The end of October is creeping in and students across campus are preparing for one of the biggest social weekends of the semester: Halloween.
If you ask around, students will give you a variety of costumes they expect to see, such as jail inmates, cats, angels and devils, vampires and more classics that you can usually see every year.
But what makes the perfect costume? Should you stick to the classics, incorporate your own twist or is it better to embrace your creative side while outfit planning?
“I feel like the classics are popular for a reason; you can’t really go wrong with something simple like that. It’s recognizable and convenient,” said Lucien Anderson, a first-year student.
For many students, convenience plays a huge role in picking a Halloween costume for the weekend. Between class work, midterms and everything else in between, some students do not have the time to think of an elaborate costume, let alone pay for one.
Alternatively, costumes that require more effort give students a chance to unleash their creativity for the weekend. By embracing classics or popular media from the year, students can show off their interests, skills and creativity all in one night. The more intricate costumes might be less recognizable to others, but they offer a way to be unique and make a statement.
“Halloween is just one big reflection of whatever’s been popular all year,” said WSU sophomore Jayden Ortez.
Many students say they expect to see a large number of people following trends from this year, some even think they will see life-sized Labubus walking around Greek row.
Like every year, group costumes will make an appearance. Many friend groups are planning elaborate outfits, from shows and movies like “Scooby Doo,” “Alvin and the Chipmunks,” “Wicked” and more. Many students said that group costumes make the night infinitely more fun, and the photos much more enjoyable to take.
There is much more thought that goes into a costume than simply, “What should I be?” The temperatures this weekend will be high 40s to mid-50s and much colder at night, so personal warmth has to be considered. In addition, it looks like costumes will also have to be able to survive the rain.
Ultimately, students expect to see familiar costumes around campus this weekend, but it is clear that costumes alone are not what make the weekend fun. From classic costumes to creative ensembles, the real fun comes from expressing your personality and making memories with friends.
Regardless of what costumes take over campus this weekend, Halloween will be a showcase of WSU student creativity. This Friday night, see which student predictions are correct and what costumes will steal the spotlight.

The Epstein list is a great costume but it seems no one can find it.
