“Dancing with the Stars” has taken over reality TV this fall, breaking voting records, building relaunch points for celebrities and bringing together millions of people.
“Dancing with the Stars” celebrated its 20th year of the show and 34th season this year. With 13 pros, 13 celebrities, four troupe members, three judges and millions of viewers, every Tuesday night from September through November was a shared experience of laughter, tears, second-hand embarrassment and so much more.
There really is no show to witness revival the way “Dancing with the Stars” has. Celebrating its 20th year, the show has brought back emotions and passion. Taking home the season 34 “Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy” was wildlife conservationist and current celebrity heartthrob, Robert Irwin and his partner, Whitney Carson. They put in endless work to put on a show every week. Irwin follows in his older sister Bindi Irwin’s footsteps after she took home the mirrorball ten years prior.
This season has so much to look into, like, why it did so well from brand deals, marketing strategies, social media and more.
There are two big rumors surrounding why Robert Irwin was on the show. One, this being one of the, if not the biggest, season of DWTS yet, it made sense to bring back a member of one of the “most loved” families in the world according to fans.
Reason No. 2 is a bit more of a marketing strategy. It is no secret that Disney movies, and most studio movies for that matter, have been tanking in the box office. DWTS is owned by Disney and Disney just released “Zootopia 2,” which Irwin had a cameo in. “Zootopia 2” topped box office ratings for the first time in a long for Disney and they have, in part, Irwin to thank for getting viewers to the theater.
People sitting around a TV together every Tuesday night to experience the thrill of the show has brought back the community of reality TV.
“Watching ‘Dancing with the Stars’ became a predictable rhythm in my life for three months watching every Tuesday night with my husband, friends,or family,” Pullman resident Becca Leggett said. “Then I got to relieve it throughout the week in conversations about our favorite dances, favorite moments and who we were rooting for. It was a beautiful picture of something simple creating authentic community,”
Although the season has ended, the content has not. With the “Dancing with the Stars” official tour beginning Jan. 22, the pros and a few celebrities are training now to bring fans the best in person live dance show they can. Details are posted on the official website.
