The WSU women’s golf team carded a team-best 230 (+17) at the Pac-12 Championship in Northern California from Friday to Sunday.

The Pac-12 championship for women’s golf took place at the Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, California. The Cougars were only able to send three golfers to play in the individual category due to team injury.

The first day of the tournament started well for the Cougars, as redshirt senior Emily Baumgart and junior Cameron March tied for 38th on the individual leaderboard, both finishing with a 78 (+7). Australian junior Amy Chu earned a score of 84 (+13) for the first round, which gave her the tie for 51st.

In the second round, the Cougars were able to have all three golfers earn a spot inside the top 50 on the individual leaderboard. Baumgart shot 7-over-par for the second straight day to give her a tie for 42nd on the individual leaderboard going into Sunday’s matchup.

Chu showed improvement from the first day with a total score of 159 (+17) after two days. She shaved nine strokes off her total score on Saturday, as she was able to card a team-best four-over-par (75) in the second round.

Meanwhile, March sat right on the edge of the top-50 mark on the player leaderboard heading into the final round, as she shot an 85 (+14) on day two.

The third and final round for the Cougars ended with the team collecting spots right around the top-50 mark on the individual leaderboard.

Baumgart was able to keep her tie for 42nd and finished with the best score of the three Cougars. She was able to card a 74 (+3) in Sunday’s third round to end her tournament with a score of 230 (+17).

Chu was able to finish the tournament in 51st place after carding a 78 (+7) in the third round. March had a score of 82 (+11) in the third round and she was able to take 52nd place on the individual leaderboard in the Pac-12 Championship.

USC ended up winning the tournament and won the Pac-12 title with a final score of 849 (-3) in the three days. Stanford’s freshman Rachel Heck was the individual winner of the tournament after finishing with a total score of 206 (-7) in her first-ever Pac-12 Championship.

The end of the tournament also marks the end of the season for the women’s golf team. Baumgart and fifth-year Marie Lund-Hansen are the only seniors on the eight-person squad and likely will not be back next season in the crimson and gray.
