WSU’s Visiting Writers Series will continue a three-decade tradition this fall with three events hosting several genres of writing.

“We haven’t been in person since March 2020,” said WSU Regents Professor DJ Lee. “We’re just really excited to have both [attendance] options so that people in Pullman can see these writers in person.”

Two events will be held in person with one completely online, but all have virtual options available, Lee said.

The first event of the series is at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 22 at the Elson S. Floyd Cultural Center featuring Zoe Hana Mikuta, author and University of Washington student.

Mikuta has one sci-fi novel published already with the sequel currently in the works, Lee said.

“There are so many students and all of the different majors throughout the university who want to write, and we’re bringing someone who’s their age who is met with early success,” she said. “I think she’ll be very relatable.”

The second writer featured is Haki R. Madhubuti. He will present on Oct. 5 via YouTube Live, Lee wrote in an email. Brian Blanchfield is the final feature of the semester. He will present on Oct. 19 at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, Lee wrote in an email.

The Visiting Writer Series is also running next semester. Next semester’s lineup is being finalized and posted soon, Lee said.
