Cougar soccer outlasts No. 14 Nebraska

WSU soccer (2-1-1) handed No. 14 Nebraska (4-1-0) their first loss of the season last night, winning by a score of 1-0.

Sophomore forward Morgan Weaver was the lone athlete to score, trudging past the Huskers’ defense in the 69th minute. One goal was that all the Cougars needed against a competitive Nebraska team, Head Coach Todd Shulenberger said post-game.

“We outshot them. We outscored them,” Shulenberger said. “We out fouled them, and this is a Nebraska team that is for real.”

Redshirt junior goalkeeper Ella Dederick had four saves against a Huskers team that had scored three in each of their previous four regular season matches.

Nebraska will take on Montana (4-1-0) at 10 a.m. tomorrow to continue the Cougar Classic on the Lower Soccer Field. The Cougars are scheduled to play Georgia Southern (2-2-1) at 12:30 p.m. tomorrow in the final game of the series.
