Last Friday and Saturday were busy for the WSU indoor track and field team with three meets in two days, and Maribel Caicedo breaking yet another record.

The Don Kirby Elite Invitational held in Albuquerque, New Mexico involved Caicedo achieving a personal best and breaking the 60-meter hurdles record (7.99) for the second time this season. This continues her winning streak. There seems to be no stopping her, as she now sits fourth in the NCAA and 18th in the world.

Elise Unruh-Thomas also achieved a personal best in the 60m preliminary and advanced to the semifinals (7.63), and Jasneet Nijjar notched a personal best in the 400m as well as placed 11th overall in the women’s field (54.26).

The Whitworth Indoor Invitational in Spokane also proved to be successful for the Cougs with Nana Gyedu winning her third shot put event of the season (14.41m), giving her a podium finish in all five meets thus far.

Gracie Strickland also placed sixth in the shot put event, and Max Moore made his first finals appearance by throwing over 2 meters more than his previous best.

In addition, Jada Van Staden made her first Cougar debut a memorable one in the 400m by taking first in the event (57.58).

Blake Deringer and Jared McAlvey also finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in the men’s 60m and both made it to the finals.

Alaina Stone Boggs (4:46.64) and Caroline Jerotich (5:00.89) had success in the Husky Classic in Seattle as well, with both achieving personal best times in the mile. Bogg’s final time ended up as a 38th overall finish.
